Look at the hits on the trike threads on this site! Its the same over on BROL.
So 'bent speeds are irrelevant as far as I am concerned. Trikes are the 'bents that the world of cyclist's seem to be imbracing.
So go off to your races. The 'bent masses are buying trikes.

Would you rather all the hits go to the "What Car should I buy?" threads?

Why is speed irrelevant? I've hit 42 mph on my GTX and 48 mph on our GTT! For me, the WHOLE POINT is speed!! So I'm off to race my trikes! Wanna RACE?!?! I promise I'll only use the 27 lower gears!
BUY A TRIKE!! BUY SEVERAL!!! BUY THEM FROM IAN SIMMS!!!! you WON'T be sorry!

Sure they're embracing them. They're just plain fun. So far at this point I'm riding about the same speed. But the bent I have is slow. And the trike gearing is great for climbing hills. Something my EZ Sport isn't good at. I can't imagine riding over 40 mph on my EZ Sport. But I've only got about 80 miles on my Catrike and I've gone over 40 mph(downhill) three times already.
But this just may be a fad. My trike will not handle rough trails or roads very well and that could keep me off enough to never lose my grin when I do ride it.:D

I think trikes are really really cool.

Why can't it handle trails?

Sounds like you need a GREENSPEED!! If they can handle "the Outback", they can probably handle anything!
That's ewhat I was thinking. Also, Heidi Domeisen rode her Trimuter on the Continental Divide. That's a loooong off road trail on a trike.

Could it be that 'bent trikes solve the balance issue for many people??
I know I don't feel as warm, fuzzy or as comfortable on a 2 wheel 'bent
as I do my trike. On a 2 wheel diamond frame.....Ya, I'm very Ok,but a
'bent 2 wheeler........Nah, seems like I'm gonna fall over all the time. :D

I ride my Terra Trike on light trails. It's great for that!

I concur. I've put soft fat tires on a WW and had a great time away from the paved trails. Terra Trikes have good clearance which is enhanced with tall tires. Further, I've had little hesitation when I ride the Logo--I just go. Unless the hill gets too steep with a soft surface (you lose traction) you can go quite a lot of places.

I'm sure(hope) riding my trike on a trail with a proper surface(crushed stone) shouldn't be much of a problem. But only time will tell about that. It'll be at least a month before the local trails will be firm enough to ride.
But around here there are some pretty rough roads with some large potholes(this county is broke) and my EZ Sport with it's larger rear wheel and more flexible frame will handle those better.
But right now I'm riding my trike exclusively. So I'm always searching for smoother roads to ride.

That was how I wound up with my Stein's (Viper and Alien). About 5 or so years ago I got an inner ear thing and couldn't ride my DF's anymore, actually walking straight was hard:-)
The selection and pricing then was nothing like it is now. There is a definite quality issue with the Stein trikes and from I saw on BROL road test, it's still there, but getting better??? Why bother with what is available now.
I'm thinking of biting the bullet and going for a Trice or Greenspeed.

Does anyone have experience commuting on regular roads with a trike over hilly areas in traffic? Aren't they heavy?

Yes. I use two mirrors, one on my sunglasses and one on the steering pin. Also a flag and a "blinkie". Maybe that's why drivers give me a safe distance when they pass. The worst part is being right at exhaustpipe level. I was thinking of carrying an oxygen tank for the uphills!
Heavy is irrelevent as I am usually hauling 1-3 kids to school/daycare and I'm the sole motor. My GTT has 72 speeds and the GTX has 54 speeds so I CAN go up any hill, just slowly. And because it's trike, I don't have to balance, so I can go VERY slowly if I haven't had my Wheaties! On downhills, I shift to high gear and go as fast as I can, taking my place as a vehicle in traffic. If I drop below the posted speed limit, I pull to the right. BTW, I also pull a Burley trailer that mounts to either trike in just a couple of minutes, thanks to the rear triangle being very similar to a DF bikes.
So get a trike! Better yet, get a Greenspeed!!!!!! (got steep hills? order the Schlumph Mtn drive with it) :)
