Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - score... vintage schwinn

Been trying to find something classy and mellow for the girl I have been dating as she plesantly has started to become interested in riding a bike...
Found this last night.. Sorry for the bad pics but I was drunk and turned off the flash for some reason.
Only thing wrong with it sides needing the tune/clean up is needing a new slotted bolt for the stem which is why the bars are dangling.
I clearly prefer fixed but I totally understand why this is more appropriate for her.

Over the past couple of years of dating my girlfriend and trying to get her into bikes, I've restored two vintage schwinn cruisers for her.
She'd think they're pretty and we'd go for a ride and she'd just lag super far behind, which made the ride more annoying than fun.
So, fast forward a little and I'm at a friend's house hanging out and we decide to go out. I didn't have my bike with me so I rode a similar style cruiser bike that was laying around.
After after 10 minutes of riding I wanted to kill myself.
Those things are miserable to ride. The "cruiser" bike stance is such that it's impossible to get any power out of your legs, it's all concentrated on the tops of your thighs.
They're made to be "cruised" on (read, slow) so when you ride with someone on an old cruiser, you must keep with their pace less be labeled a dick.
Finally I realized THAT was why my girlfriend would always lag behind.
So, I finally just built her a fixed gear and now she hauls ass whenever we ride together.
Moral of the story: ditch that bike and build her a fixed gear.

Yeah doesn't need to be fast... just needs to get her around the area. She's not the type to get all into cycling and race around with me. Just needs mellow transportation around the hill.

Moral of the story: ditch that bike and build her a fixed gear.

I think it's more of a to-each-her-own type of thing. I personally love my fix and my new ss mtb, and both have aggressive riding positions that give me lots o' power. My wife, on the other hand, likes the cruiser style and somehow goes much faster than she would all hunched up. We inherited a nice steel ten-speed, and I set it up all racy-like, and she just couldn't get into it. Then I came across and fixed up a Free Spirit three speed, and she zips around like nobody's business. Obviously, she not a super-serious cyclist and she doesn't like to haul ass the way I do, but for her, the cruiser stylee is where it's at.
