Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - What rims to go with Phil hubs.

I'm trying to find out what a good rim is that will be worthwhile being built with Phil Standard HF 32 track hubs. I was thinking of going with the anodized open pros but in terms of the cost, I was thinking maybe the open sport??? What are worthwhile rims that aren't too overly priced that would keep me on the road for good miles?

open pros are good, anything with eyelets are good. dt-swiss makes some sweet rims. if you get some without eyelets (velocity) get the brass washer inserts for the nipples. that will make 'em stronger.

You can't go wrong with open pros or cxp-33s. Saving money on a rim isn't really worth it, especially since you've got Phil hubs.

CXP33 are great. I have bought 4 in the past 3 months ( for two different bikes)

DT Swiss R 1.1 are nice and a bit cheaper than buying Mavic. My friend built used two on his KHS and two on his Giant TCR Carbon and those things are light and nice. I just ordered a pair to lace to some surlys, good underrated rims.

I like non-machined aeroheads

I have Phils laced to a set of aeroheads, machined. Solid wheelset if not a touch heavy but I like having the piece of mind knowing that I can beat the **** out of them on the street

any ****ing colored Deep-V. Deep-Vs are by far the best rims ever. They are super aero and come in all kinds of colors. It also looks really cool when you radial lace the front wheel.

dt swiss rr 1.1's are nice, as I've heard good things about open pro's as well.

I don't exactly know how machined rims make them better for running brakes....however, I know that anodized rims provide a better braking surface from the treatment they do with chemicals, etc.

braking on an anodized brake surface sucks balls. especially in the wet.

used to be the choice of cool kids. when i bought mine a year and a half ago all of you ****ers were raving about how strong they were.

velocity deep v's are good overbuilt and overengineered rims. It just happens that they weigh a lot compared to the dt swiss and open pro's. Also, while the deep v's have their bombproof benefits, the type of riding that most of us do doesn't required the durability of the deep v and a lighter weight rim like the dt swiss of open pro will do. The only thing that killed my dt swiss was a huge expansion joint that would've eaten damn near anything that got caught at the speed i was moving.

i know that, but he isn't the only one. it's like the number of deep v rims sold crossed some invisible threshold, and all of your ipods sent the signal into your brain that they weren't acceptable anymore.

i'm currently having a wheelset put together with some phils and non-machines velocity aeros that look ****ing great.

For starters, how heavy are you and how hard do you ride? A Deep-V for a person like me is rediculous as I'm a featherweight and try not to shock the rims too much, while a 180lb guy who hops everything in sight and generally beats their rims could really use them. Rim choice shouldn't be dictated by style alone, unless such is the vibe you're going for.

*Not a rant against Deep-V's, more so against going with something that works for someone else without seeing how it works for you.

evan, i'm not disagreeing about that, and while its a nice thing to have the extra strength, i don't think its 100% neccessary, although a nice insurance policy if you will.

So I've narrowed it down to the regular open pros or the anodized version. Is it really worth the extra step from $60 (regular silver; black costs $70 for some reason cuz it looks cooler?) to an anodized that $75 for a front wheel with my new high flange phil hubs? Or does it not even mattah?
