I'm watching this new show on FX. I read an article about it a while back in a magazine and just had to see it. It really is quite intriguing.
For those who don't know: A black and white family moved in with each other for some amount of time I can't remember right now and anytime they went out in public the white family would be made up to look like black people and vice versa. Using state of the art makeup - they really look the part. They gave up their lives wherever they were to move away from everyone they know to make it work.
I dunno. I thought it would suck but I like it. Hmm. Life on the other side. Go figs.

I've heard about this, but I haven't seen it yet. Sounds interesting. I can't help but be reminded of the bit Eddie Murphy did on SNL where he's made up like a white man. That was hilarious.
Yeah, switching races would be fun, IF it was a TV show. In real life, the amusement might wear off rather quickly.
Last year, a study was published with resumes being submitted to get interviews for jobs for recent college graduates. The resumes were "graded" by experts as being "A" level resumes...the person described had the right classes, the right degree, and the right prior experience to get an interview.
Then, names were put on the resumes. Some names were designed to sound African-American. "Shaqangel Jones". Or, hispanic. "Lupe Garcia". Or, like a guy from the suburbs. "R. Preston Bush III".
And surprise, surprise. The folks with the white, yuppie sounding names were invited in for interviews. Some of the hispanic named folks were invited for interviews. Folks whose name sounded African-American were not offered interviews in significant numbers.
In real life, the consequences of being born into one race versus another tend not to be amusing.
Book and movie Black like Me:
"Based on a true story and best-selling account by John Howard Griffin, this film tells of the virulent racism plaguing America in the 1960s. John Finley Horton darkens his white skin and succeeds in "passing-for-Negro." Hitchhiking across the U.S., Horton tries to experience life in white America from a Black man's point of view. Refused employment, taunted by whites, slighted by employers and stereotyped sexually, he learns more about race prejudice than he ever imagined possible."

I'm in the opposite court. I thought I would really like it before it came out....then started watching it and I'm pretty much done I think.
Almost all the people in the show are so out in left field, it doesn't seem nearly possible to be valid for the "experience" they get. The black parents go bonkers over every little thing. The black father sees racism everywhere....next he'll talking about racist advertising on cereal boxes. The white parents think that all blacks are like a Chris Rock comedy routine. The black son is only one iota removed from a bump on a log. The daughter in the white family is the only one who seems to be truly getting the experience from this.
Just another fake 'reality' show. Yawn
Just another one of those "new breed" retarded shows with a twist.....
Pay to be first..... :roflmao:

The thing is, the daughter is the one who least needs the experience. Her parents are clueless, I'm amazed they produced offspring as intelligent as she is.
I'm getting so sick and tired of the stupid commercials for this show that i could scream
