General Cycling Discussion - National Bike Registry

Has anyone had any experience with Nat'l. Bike Registry? They claim the "success rate has been 99%. Every time a police officer has contacted us about a registered bike, . . ." Do the police contact them? Before I send them my $10 I figured I'd get your expert recomendations.

I haven't had any experience with them myself, but I would call my local Police Department and ask them if they actually use them and what success rate they've had if they do. Good Luck!

The police, judging by their performance, clearly are not "experts" in the area of stolen bicycle recovery.

I keep thinking about doing this, but I never seem to get around to it. I look at it as a cheap insurance policy and I'm going to get off my butt and do it soon. It can't hurt, and by more people using it, hopefully the police will see it as good tool for them utilize.

I went to the local police bicycle sale where the police department sells abandoned bikes and stolen bikes.

It was surprising how many of the bikes had police registered owner stickers on them. I mentioned this to one of the police staff and asked why the bikes weren't back in the hands of the owners, seeing as they were registered with the police. The response I got was, "...I dunno".

I've wondered the same thing, Mike.

Reminds me of legislation now in progress in several areas, including Missouri, to get stop police from ILLEGALLY keeping revenue gained from drug busts. (In Missouri, it's supposed to go to fund schools.)

I'm a former police employee, and I respect the police, but they're not perfect!

Police in Flagstaff may have the time and the desire to search for stolen bikes, but I'm afraid that's not the case in places like Phoenix and Toronto.
