Training & Nutrition - Fitday.com inaccuracies?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I started using fitday.com when I heard about it by reading these forums, and I'm absolutely loving it, I don't mind the restrictions it places on my eating habits (can't eat anything I can't fill out a nutrition label for) or the time it consumes in my day.
However, I was wondering how accurate people thought the site was in its estimations on metabolic rates, calories/hour burned by certain activities, etc. It's important to know just how accurate it is in telling me how many calories I burn in a day, so I can stay in the weight loss zone.
Additionally, I've been trying to keep my carb/protein/fat ratios around 55/25/15 or 60/20/20, but I'm a full time baker at a bakery where I get an endless free supply of really healthy, really good bread (we mill our own whole wheat flour) so the carbs dont usually drop below 60 percent unless I really try for it.What are good ratios for weight loss/retaining muscle? I dont know how accurate fitday is, but you must enter hours of sleep under activities. If you don't the life style calories consumed will be inflated.

yes, I factor in 6 hours of sleep each day to offset the calories. Go to activities, then look up inactivity, quiet, then sleep. Who cares if its not to the calorie? Its keeping me aware of whats going in my body and therefore, I am healthier and lighter to boot.
On a side note, look what I ate for supper last night (3/18) :( In 3 weeks I screwed up. Though it was good, it was totally not worth it. Im up 3 pounds this morning :( I hope its all water from the sodium

Keep it up!:)
That sounds tasty though...
Alright.Something didn't seem right, mustve been the sleep. What about the days when you don't work? I'm constantly active at my work, so this should affect my calorie burning on the weekend greatly.
Also, does it adjust for your age? at 21, I'd imagine I have a different metabolic rate than a 40 year old using the site.. This might account for never being able to consume under 2500 calories :D.

I agree. I don't crazy about the accurracy. I found its a good way to measure and manage my progress.

I believe your age is used in the eqauation to determine the Basal portion of calories burned.
sleep. you gotta account for sleep. everyone freakin sleeps. it should already be buffered in. anyway, i just went back and accounted for sleep for the past two months. i have lost 22 pounds since jan and have been using fitday to track my calorie intake versus calories burnt, so it isnt really that big a deal. however, it does account for a decrease of around 300 cals for lifestyle on a daily basis.
i have found that most of the activity numbers are lower then either my polar heart rate monitor or the built in equipment at the gym. all take in my age, weight, and heart rate for consideration?? fitday is just a really great guide for watching calories, tracking activities, and losing weight. it is not 100% accurate but many successful weight losers use it. later.
