Touring - Handlebar bag & STI shifters?

I need some advice. New REI Randonee has STI shifters.
Would like to mount a medium Ortlieb handlebar bag, and keep STI
I have seen the info table at Arkel concerning same.
Have seen one mention of using this bag with STI without noodles/rollamajig etc.
What do you guys think?

I've use a handlebar bag with STI without problems. Provided that the cable housing is long enough, you could just smoosh the cables down (I've done that) or, a better fix is to get two v-brake noodles, cut the ends off and replace the first couple of inches of cable housing with them. It turns the cables down at 90 degrees and gives you lots of room. There aren't any issues with shifting either. Mine work just fine with a medium Ortlieb bag.

Can you post a picture of what you have? SOunds like a good solution but I am not familiar with a "noodle."

I not a member of the digital generation and I've never taken a picture of the set up (I've looked through all of my pictures but 'not a sausage' :D ) But there is this thing called the Internet that has all kinds of stuff on it and I found a picture here (http://bicyclesports.us/id256.htm). The noodle that I'm talking about is from a v-brake and it routes the cable across the top of the brake caliper. You need to do a little surgery on the end with the nipple on it (cut it off) and then it just slides into the shifter cable housing on the brake lever. While you've got the cable apart install a pair of Jagwire in-line cable adjuster like these (about halfway down the page) (http://www.jagwireusa.com/rocketlubeadjuster.html). They make adjusting cables much easier.
