where can i purchase a solar- or something to power items such as a laptop, ipod and cell phone during my tour thanks

Moontrail (http://moontrail.com/) has a bunch of Brunton brand solar options, some of which are powerfull enough to power and/or recharge a laptop. They also carry a bunch of other nifty stuff suited for lightweight hiking/backpacking/camping.

They have very good customer service, as well as fast shipping. I'm still waiting on a battery charger I ordered directly from Brunton last week.
Another option may be to check out Iowa Thin Film (Google), as I believe Brunton's "Solar roll's" are just Iowa Thin Films re-badged.

That's an interesting concept...but you have to be careful about those side mounted generators. They can eventually wear a groove in the sidewall of the tire.

I agree, and highly doubt one would be suitable for the OP's request to re-charge a laptop.
-Also, I recieved the AA/AAA battery charger from Brunton yesterday afternoon. It's pretty nifty. Charges fast off of grid power, has a discharge option (to fully discharge NIMH's prior to re-charging them).
Solar charge should be pretty good as well. I went out in the early evening New England sun yesterday just to see if it would work. The chargers LED's showed charging fine (4 2300mAh AA batteries), even with sun near the horizon, panel held facing the sun. The wire connector to the charger could be "beefier" to prevent popping out by accident, but should work well with care.
