Cyclocross - Adjusting cable slack on Dia-Compe V287

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Hi All,
I've just upgraded brake set up on my Salsa Las Cruces with Avid Mtn BB7 with Dia-Compe V287 lever. It seems I can't use original barrel adjuster from Dia-Compe since it's curly shape. And no barrel adjuster on Avid as well. I'm using Dura Ace SLR brake cable. The cable length seems right, no need to cut the hose, just trim the cable a bit.
Anyone has experience on how to adjust some cable slacks on this set up?
Thanks

you can install an in-line adjuster (jagwire makes a few). they just get added to the brake housing and can expand / contract to take up / slacken the cable as needed.
Thanks fore for your prompt reply.
Quick look at jagwire found some products suitable for my needs. In-line adjuster may need to cut the hose, I think.
Now, I'm thinking to just cut away the curly section on Dia-Compe adjuster and install on front of Avid BB7, just before the cable get into it. Hence, no need to cut the hose and the front cabling looks clean.

Here's another question... do we really need to install barrel adjuster on CX bike?
I have those adjuster on MTB and Tandem bikes but never touch them.
Thanks

I would double check the Avid website because If I remembered correctly you are not supposed to use the barrel adjuster to adjust for any slack. Adjustment for feel and performance should be done at the brake unit itself via the red dial.

Check this out before you spend your money and time on something you don't need.

Thanks pigtire for the link.
I checked the document (in fact, it's provided in the box when you buy Avid BB7) and it stated you need barrel adjuster on the lever to remove any cable slack. The document is referring to mountain bike lever, see the picture on it, that the adjuster located right (integrated) on the lever.
I'm using road lever (V-287) for V brake. Barrel adjuster was included but those for V brake type, curly things that going into the brake from side, not install on the lever.
I saw some nice CX bikes here with adjuster installed in front of handlebar. Installed somewhere in between lever and cable stop. Hence my question referring to this setup.
Thanks

My mistake. I did not see that photo but going back I never used the adjuster knob to take off slack. I Just pull out the slack, tighten the bolts and adjust the big red knobs.
