how late will this thing be running, including afterparty (there is an afterparty, yeah?)

wondering if the train would make sense.

oh hell yeah. last year, after i got doored (by a guy carrying a screen door), going to a few checkpoints using a totally illogical route, my group threw in the towel and started drinking in earnest at about 3 pm. i don't remember how long the night lasted.

anyone taken the Hiawatha train from CHI <> MKE? pretty good deal at $40 r/t, getting me into mke at 10:30... but in my experience Amtrak runs late, meaning i would be cutting it close for the registration.. anyone have a personal account?

damn i remember hearing about you slamming into that, and also matt and some other guy slaming into each other right after the start. lets hope you wont be doing that this year.

I have used this alot, and have never had any probs with it running late. The only things to consider is the S-L-O-W bike packaging guy in the basement/labrynth of the CHI station, the S-L-O-W bike pickup guy at the MKE station, and the $10 for the bike box ( which you can try to stash behind the dumpsters out back and re-use for the trip home). Good news is that Amtrak is mere minutes from the race registration. Also, make sure the train you want has a baggage(bike) option. Some don't, and I think that there are only two a day on weekends.g'luck

it actually wasn't that bad, it probably looked gnarly though. i was riding with 2two others, bringing up the rear. they both were able to dodge, but there was just not enough room for me to get around. the guy i hit was pretty small, i think he went down pretty hard. he seemed alright, so we just left. im just glad that door wasnt glass.

yeah, the start at the top of the hill was pretty crazy, with groups taking intersections in both directions at speed. the other guy who got into that wreck with matt was my co-worker at the time, mike. we both were passed out on the ride back to chi, and i got yelled at by his fiancee when he got dropped off. i was standing there, feeling like ****, holding his totally trashed serotta, and we were both getting completely verbally abused. our solution was to have a gin and tonic (unfortunately, mostly gin) and then i walked home, and got yelled at again.

it was all pretty ridiculous.

Are the stops ever consistent from year to year in MMI? Not that it really matters since I can't find any of the past stops. Hmm... which unfortunate MKE kid is gonna have me as a tagalong?

Haha two people still managed to run into each other right in the beginning, I felt bad for the dude on the sexy keirin frame, didnt get a chance to see the other dudes whip. All in all totally ****ing rad ride, except for that ******** prize I got for 1st Bianchi, I would have prefered a crisp $5 bill haha.

That's some great stuff.

Also, it should be noted that the pictured stack of Hamm's is a) a resupply after the keg went dry, b) probably no more than half of the total retrieved Hamm's, and c) delicious yet inexpensive!

To all who took them: thanks for the pictures.

My favorite, for what occurred before and after:
