I own a 2001 specialized rockhopper, and i am wondering if this is a good bike for freeriding, dirt jumping, and DH. What can i do to it to make it better for freeriding? I currently have a rockshox Judy special with 100mm of travel, what other shocks would be good for this bike? Also would you mind telling me the bike(s) you own.

Im probably not the best person to ask here but ill give you my opinion anyway. As far as the frame goes, your rockhopper should be able to handle some abuse. It definitely not a freeride bike, but could handle some small drops and even larger ones if dont properly. In order to turn you bike into what would be considered a light freerider, you would have to loose the judy fork. Im not sure about its geometry but that frame could probably handle a 5 inch travel fork. Even so, 4 inches is still adequate foor light freeriding as long as you have the right fork. First thing is that marzochi forks are by far the toughest forks that you can abuse the hell out of. Some to consider that are low in price but high in quality (compared to what else is at that price range) is the dirtjumper 3 and the mx series. The mx series I believe is the same thing as last years EXR which at least from what ive heard and read are great forks. Besides the fork, you will want heavy duty rims. I guess it all depends on how big you wanna go. If you wanna go BIG then you mind as well buy a new bike and keep your rockhopper for xc type riding. But if you make a couple changes as mentioned, which will probably cost you around 500 bucks you could toughen that bike up pretty good.
And btw I own a 02 rockhopper hardtail. I abuse the hell out of it and besides some creaking, the only damage I have done to it is bang the wheels outa true.

Your bike really isnt too good for freeriding or DH, dirtjumping it could probably do ok at. It depends on how smooth you are, you could pull some big drops on that bike if you had enough skill. You could get a link upgrade http://mountainspeed.com/fsr/, and a longer stroke coil shock, there are also a few more companies that makes them. As for the fork.....look at marzocchi forks, I have a dirtjumper II and I like it, it has 135mm travel. I own a 2003 specialized bighit comp.
