Hi all,

Yellowstone National Park will be closed to motorized vehicles from April 1-21, leaving it open only to pedestrians, roller bladers and cyclists. There will be no charge to use the park. My wife and I thought we'd get together with as many cyclists as possible for an Easter weekend ride throughout parts of the park.

We plan to base ourselves out of West Yellowstone (MT) and ride 50-70 miles each day, on Saturday and Sunday, but everything is open to individual choice. Since this is the off-season, I understand hotel rates are greatly reduced. If someone breaks down, there won't be any (motorized) help and it could be a long walk, so make sure your bike is in good repair and bring spare tubes, etc. We'll be on our tandem and will carry a pretty good assortment of tools and supplies (and a tow rope) in our trunk bag. If you're interested, PM me or just leave a reply here. I hope we'll be able to round up a bunch of you and have a wonderful Easter weekend. It would be great to meet some of you, too. OHB

I wish we could join you OHB but it is too far and too expensive for us to transport our brood.

I remember their being a nice pass to ride up, but I they may have been outside one of the Yellowstone entrances. You'll need good brakes to come down that one though. The Tetons can be a gorgeous ride in the early morning with less traffic and sunrise over the mountains.

There is a little cabin just outside the south(?) entrance to the Tetons where they filmed part of "Shane".

Enjoy the riding.

Wow that sounds like it would be amazing. Too bad Michigan is so far away - otherwise we'd be there!

Any idea how many riders are gonna be there?

Don't know yet, but there may be a club ride from a group up in Montana. We'll see. If you want to send your avatar, I'll pay the freight!

Sounds excellent. We won't be able to join you this year, but I'd encourage others. The road from West Yellowstone is, I believe, the easiest and most scenic route into the Park. W.Yellowstone in the offseason is nice too - - good lodging and restaurants. BTW, what temps and weather should folks expect? MarkIV

i would love to join you but my wife could not make it to the valley. from the entrance to the park it is a long bike ride to get to the actual valley itself. it's a 45 -60 minutes car trip over a very winding road. very pretty but often times not too scenic becasue you are just engulfed by the forest. anyway, if one could make the long ride into the valley it would be awesome to ride around the valley floor with no cars. it is actually a nice bike ride even when the cars are there because thereis so much traffic you actually make better time on a bike. have a good time and enjoy the park you should have all to yourselves!
