Hi Im new to the forum and had a question. I just took the training wheels off my sons bike (Conrad) he will be 3 in may (do you sense the pride?) he is riding a 12" Hotrock and probably wont grow out of it too soon but I am thinking ahead to his next bike. I have noticed a few 16 inch bmx bikes that are better all around than any 16" kids bike. I think there is a 16 Haro Mira, a Specialized Fuse 16, a DK General Lee 16 and a Hoffman for example that I could find so far.
Growing up I went from 3 speed to road to mountain bike and dont know the first thing about BMX except that the most skilled technical mountain bikers started on BMX as kids.
Any advice on what to get the little guy?

no advice...but way cool. now you need to make some small jumps so he can start catching air. maybe get him a 50cc motorcycle so he doesn't have to pedal anymore
1st off safety gear head to foot. You hurt yourself when your that young it can really put you off.Bunnyhop, barspins, rollbak, wheelie are good beginer tricks.

Jumps sound like a good idea but Im not so sure about the motorcycle. Don't you think 50 cc might be a little underpowered?

50- 60 mph sounds a little wimpy for my kid he like to go fast!

The Hardrock and Fourpack are way too big he needs a 16" wheel but Im looking for better quality than your typical kids bike/boat anchor

No offense to anyone, but I think sitting a kids butt on a motor is one of the worst things you can do for them. Kids need to run, exercise and pedal for their own well being. I see little kids in my neighborhood riding motorized electric cars and it always makes me wonder what habits the parents are teaching them. I like your idea of getting a higher quality 16 incher. ;) Let us know what you get.

No offense but I beleive that you have never ridden a motorcycle for a good amount of time or an ATV. It is actually alot of work and is very tiring when you do alot of riding.
50cc can be fast if you gear a small bike like that correctly you can get it to do a good 70 MPH I know this becasue I own one. Honda XR 50, its actually a 90 now because it has a Big Bore kit in it. But its still fast.

Uh...just for the record i thought we were all joking about putting a two year old on a motorcycle...I know I was. I have no intentention of ever getting him a motorcycle. I agree with AlmostTrick.
Still trying to find other 16 inchers to compare the DK General Lee 16 and Hoffman Rhythm 16 seem promising.

Get the DK, its cheap, and very nice.
As for the motorcycle, i wouldnt if i had a little guy...
And make sure to get him pads and a HELMET because (at least when i tried to get my sister to ride, haha good times...) once they fall hard once or twice there done for a while...

OK so DK over the Hoffman. Only asking cause he really likes yellow.
(He can learn to like oarnge if the DK is better) And are we talking better quality parts lighter weight price or what.
this will last conrad until about the age of 5...at which time you'll want to upgrade.
"This is a perfect introduction to KTM for kids from 3 years-old. The centrifugal clutch attached to the rear wheel makes controlling the bike’s performance child’s play. The seat height of 530 mm is ideal for the really young rider." - source KTM

kids are naturally active, you will not detract from his physical activity (PA) level. generally, this does not occur until the high school years and then beyond for sure. avoiding the latest xboxplaystationsuperdupergenesis video game system would be healthier for conrad. riding a motorized bike will give conrad plenty of exercise and a sense of responsibilty far greater than a pedal bike.
this will be conrad's second bike:

Do you just assume everyone's made of money, and can/will buy their kid a new motorcycle every year?

not every year...about every 3 years. resale will be pretty good and this will fund a large portion of the newer model. conrad's dad might be wealthy :D

The DK is lighter and has a good parts package.
The Hoffman is heavier and has just about the same parts package. (i beleive that the hoffman is made for older, bigger guys that want to have a little bike to screw around on, more than its made for little guys....)

OK one last question and thanks everyone for your help. Haro has a z16 which has been reccomended. Looks like a cross between a kids bike and more serious BMX here is a link with some cool pics of a 5 year old doing tricks on a ramp. BTW I like the little motorcycles but still gonna pass.
