What is it with radio hosts and being anti-cyclists? I think it is particular damaging since most ppl listen to the radio ON the road and if this guy, Rick Rogers on KFMB, a popular channel in San Diego, is advocating violence towards cyclists.
You can listen to his pod cast:

It speaks for itself.
you guys may want to contact tracy johnson, TracyJ@kfmb.com, the vice president and general manager of kfmb.

Who owns the station? I couldn't find anything on the website.
I guess it's time for someone in San Diego to contact LAB. They did a great job with Clear Channel radio a few years ago.
Most radio announcers are idiots to begin with.
Can anyone summarize the podcast? I don't have any way to listen to it here at work.
Comments such as "cyclists making good hood ornements", "get out of the lane, get on the sidewalk"... "have you seen the seat on these bicycles, I don't want to be rude or anything, but you are gay", "maybe that's because you wear padding on your shorts".."guys like you dressed like Lance wannabees, you are gay"..."there's a new movie coming out soon about this, it's called brokeback mountain bike".."all you cyclists have this bad attitude"... It goes on and on and is quite disturbing.
I sent an e-mail to LAB. I don't think there is any point writing to the station, he reads the letters on the air while making these comments. What he needs is a good lesson such as losing his job, I wouldn't mind seing him also doing some community work such as sweeping bike lanes dressed in an orange suit
I said it and that feels good! ;)
That one's bad.
And he thinks that bikes are not allowed to ride outside of the bike lane.
This is what is bad about bike lanes.

See this thread, for the same thing:

BTW any MP3 player will play the podcast... including windows media player.

I think he should have to wear a camouflage suit while he's sweeping those BLs!

No better yet... how about a "bumble bee" suit just like us... dayglo yellow and black shorts!

I think we should back up a step and realize that it’s just humor.:D Most humor is at someone’s expense. Should cyclists be yet another specially protected class of people – such that it’s unacceptable to make jokes about us?
Not jokes that threaten violence or spread lies about our rights to the road.

How is a shock jock anti-radio? I thought it was their livelyhood. ;)
On the serious side, see my reply in the other thread of this topic. Basic gist is that this is in fun, and we are the subjects precisely because we collectively have a very thin skin. So, thicken up the skin and call in to the station and talk up the jock! Put him on the defensive by making fun of his big belly or something.
thin skin, eh... as in "not steel?"
:D
Various members of the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition have sent Rick Roberts a number of well-written, factual, unemotional responses and offers of Effective Cycling training.
I only listen to all news stations.
i doubt that will change his opinion. A better solution would be to e-mail his sponsors. Cut his funding and then he will start thinking again.
