Foo - Why don't the "guests" at the bottom of the forum join?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

They take checks and money orders. (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=149754)

Huh, I didn't know that.

I'll do a money order.

Thanks.

I paid with a credit card. Took me all of 2 minutes.

Made me feel good to keep Joe G.'s gift of bikeforums alive in some small way.

Though I understand many on the board are not in a financial position to get the red star, but there are some folks out here who I am surprised have not upgraded.

56/12.... may your fiduciary contribution pay you back in heaps of good cheer and BF knowledge. :)

They are mostly surfing the web for a bicycle topic and found some information in the archives. Then they show up as a guest! They may not even be aware they might join.

dnvrfox is correct.
I've had friends say they have googled things related to step motors and Linux and had BF come up as one of the first hits

By the way, for those who might not know, you can read the archives by clicking on the lower right hand corner (in the black part) of the BF screen.

I kinda doubt that the guests are looking at Foo. Most probably came here looking for bike related stuff, so until they join, they'll probably never see this.

I'm logged into the work laptop and I don't auto-login on the laptop; I have to log in to post. So I'm one of 'em, sometimes.

But I'm still the Red Haired Scot.

Unfortunately, no one can tell us since someone who tells us necessarily is no longer a guest and can no longer speak authoritatively about the guests. :(

So that is why you keep posting those threads! To get all your friends on BF. You clever schemer, you. ;)

I don't have paypal.

Its FREE, you can link your regular bank account up with it. Its easier then money order or cheque. what are you waiting for!

EJ123
03-21-06, 09:03 PM
So I could make an account with like $500 in it, and have paypal use it for buying stuff?

blue_neon
03-21-06, 09:08 PM
Yes. You just link it to your bank account, and 'transfere' money into it to send off. Just like ING Direct as such (thats if your in AUSTRALIA you'll know what i'm talking about).

blue_neon
03-21-06, 09:09 PM
Oh you have to be over 18.

EJ123
03-21-06, 09:11 PM
So It will take money from my account and put it into a pay pall acount? Is there a minimal amount requirement? So if I get money from lets say selling something on ebay, I can transfer that to my acount again?

What cat do you have T?

Ummm, I'm not really sure what you mean. I'm not sure what kind of cat it is. It's a good pic though because his name is Boots and their's a pair of boots behind him.

Sorry for getting the thread a little off-topic. Join the fun, Guests!

I just got a paypal account a while ago. Actually, the only thing I've used it for so far was upgrading my BF account. Do you actually need to transfer money into the paypal account? I thought it just automatically took it out of your bank account.

What does having a "red-star" matter? Hell, I was gonna join, but I always come across some crap that detours me from joining up, like pulling threads, personal crap, etc...

Having a red-star, blue-star, any frickin star should not matter, this is an Open Forum is it not?

How much would it cost for TWO red stars? Or a Gold Star?

Yeah! That's what I want. A gold star. What's it gonna take?

Ooh, I changed my mind. Now I want a green shamrock next to my name. Can I have one? Please?

Sincerely,

More Money than Sense

That's exactly the kind of thing someone with no star would say.

You don't have to pay money to participate in this forum. You pay money if you like the forum alot and the mods don't do stupid **** that makes the place a unfun place to be. This is a community. If you don't like the community then you either a) don't have to participate or b) don't have to pay. if you do then you can join, lurk or pay.

phantomcow2
03-22-06, 06:57 PM
There is no obligation to pay. Personally, I think it is worth the 25 dollars for the enjoyment and information you get.
If you post in cycling mechanics, think about the money that you have saved by asking members for help instead of getting your LBS to fix your stuff.

Taerom
03-22-06, 07:03 PM
Heh, I really don't think that consulting an internet forum is a substitute for having a LBS fix your stuff. And for most mechanical stuff, I think there are better resources on the internet that BF. If I had a mechanical problem, I probably would not come to BF for help first. :(
