Touring - Calgary to Alaska

We are planning a touring trip from calgary to Anchorage, alaska and we are wondering how hard it is to ride in the Rockies?

How is the road in Yukon? Trafic? Some cities to refill food, water? How is the weather also? We'll be leave Calgary in the beginning of may.

Guebabin - You NEED to get a "Milepost" if at all possible (IMHO). You may know this, but the Milepost is the bible of the Alaska Highway system, and it covers Yukon and the whole "north of 60" region better than any other resource I am aware of. It has tips on where to camp, where to get water, weather, etc. etc. and it's uncannily accurate. They actuallly update this every year and verify it with road trips, so it just gets better and better. It won't give you any insights on riding - the target customer is RV drivers, but I am guessing you would be on the AlCan, and once you are in Alaska, if it's a road, it's in the Milepost (for the most part). I bet you can pick one up in Calgary. If you draw a blank, PM me and I can connect you to one from Anchorage (I'm always happy to help out our friends in Canada). They are about $25 (US) but worth it.

I second the recommendation for the milepost. Big, heavy, but you won't regret having it. I recommend going up the Cassiar Hway and taking a detour to Hyder. A lot of it isn't paved but that means a little more remote. Quite a few logging trucks but in my experience, they are some of the most courteous drivers on the planet.
