Does anyone know what the maximum width of tires is that can be put on Mavic A119 36-hole rims?

My girlfriend's Cannondale T800 and my Bianchi Volpe both have these stock rims, both with Conti TT's on them right now, hers 35c and mine in 32c. We're working on preparing for a touring trip which will probably include a lot of gravel/unimproved roads. I'd like to throw on some wider Schwalbe Marathons in 38c or even 40c to improve the stability, but I'm not sure if this would require a new set of rims for each bike.

Anyone have these rims or know about max tire width for these?

thanks,
Chris

I have Conti TT's in 37 on mine. I wouldn't hesitated to put 40's on them. 42 might be pushing it but then I ride mountain bikes too and some of the rims I have are narrower than the A119 and I have 2.1" tires on them. Lower pressure, I know, but then...

They'll probably take about anything you want within reason. I have some 38 knobbies on a set of Mavic Open Pro's right, which are pretty skinny road rims, now and they're fine, so I think you can go way fat on those 119's

Mavic show in a chart of dimensions and pressures for both the A719 and A319 that the tyre sizes range from 28 to 50, and being of the same width, I think they also apply for the A119.

You can fit all the to a 2.35 if you have to w/out any issues. I have a DB mtb and I'm currently running Conti Vapors 2.1(1.8 actual) on Mavic MA3s and they are just perfect.

It's on the web: Recommended tire widths: 28 to 47 mm

See Mavic website under dimensions: http://www.mavic.com/road/products/a-119.324120.2.aspx

My new wheels are 18 mm and I have 2.1" 29er tires. Won't have no problem going up to 2.3".
