I'm really considering entering a local sprint tri this July, just for the fun of it. I did two duathlons last year and while not world class by any means, I did manage to finish both of them. I have a very basic question regarding gear. Will my 'oh so comfortable' Brooks saddle end up getting wet because of my yet to be purchased wet-suit will be soaking wet when I mount, or am I looking at putting another saddle on? Please be gentle, I'm in Wyoming and Triathlons are about as common as soft wood pecker lips out here. I appreciate all replies, and thank you in advance...

soft wood pecker lips
Let me catch my breath, I'm crying over here! Okay...
You don't want to get on your bike with a wetsuit. The guys/gals I've seen in wetsuits wear bike shorts under their wetsuits. So, you should have your shorts on underneath the wetsuit and they should be relatively dry. I've never used a wetsuit, I swim w/triathlon bike shorts. They are wet when I get on my bike and it doesn't make a difference to me.
BTW, triathlons are more common in Colorado and they have quite a few here in Nebraska, which are all close to Wyoming. If you like the tri, you may want to consider a couple of roadtrips. Good luck. Post and let us know how you do.

Anything in a triathlon can get wet, especially if it rains. Everything dries okay though, including saddles.

Hey! I've got a Brooks sadde...and I use if for Ironman...and yes, everything gets wet. I use a lightweight neoprene cover on my Brooks. It never crossed my mind that maybe my saddle shouldn't get wet until I read all the posts on this forum. 9 Iroman's and 10 half Ironman's later, and my Brooks is FINE.

If you wear a wetsuit for the swim, you should take it off before the bike. If you don't mind taking more time in transition, you could change into dry bike shorts. As for me, I swim, bike and run in my 2-piece tri suit (like a swimsuit with minimal extra material for a little padding). My saddle gets more wet from pouring water on my head during the ride to cool off than it does by wearing a wet suit (not wetsuit).

Good luck in your triathlon!

LiteSS...your avatar is great! My buddy is a dentist and may be able to help you out. I think you're probably stuck with those chimp eyes, tho. Sorry.

You should see my full body spandex shot.

I don't need to see a dentist. My hair is fine.
