I have a 2000 specialized allez sport that i'm looking to upgrade in the near future. it came with a cheapo sugnio crankset. i dunno whether the BB is square tapered or splined. does anyone know when shimnano started using splined BBs?

i want to get a 105 crankset, but there are some that are "octalink" and some that are not. i assume that the pre-octalink cranksets are square taper?

oh yeah, and does anyone recall that website that lists the diff between shimano groups from year to year?

Pre octalink or pre 9 speed shimano are SQ taper. even if you get a SQ taper 105 it may not be right for the spindle length the sugino crank uses. save some hassle and get a 9 speed 105 and matching BB.Try www.jensonusa.com for some closeouts.Note, shimano mtb splined BBs, es70,s50, and es50 are a different spline pattern and are NOT compatible with shimano road cranks.
