Can anyone tell me what size tires will fit on my old Mavic G40 rims? They are about 20 years old, but as true as the day I bought them. I have started riding again and need to replace my rotted tires before I get the bike off the trainer and on the road. I know I need 700C, but 700C x what?????? I can't read the markings on the tires.

Thank Rob

your wheels will accept just about any size 700c tire, from 19s through 38s. 19s may have blowoff problems, depending on the tire manufacturer. 38s will probably have fit problems with your frame. 23-25-28 will more than likely all work and make you happy to some degree.

The standard size most roadies use nowadays are 700 x 23c, but you can use a 25c for a more comfy ride if you want.

I owned a pair of wheels with G40 rims when I was not much more than a boy about a million years ago. They were just about the best clincher rim available back in the day (early 80's) :)

Michelin tyres were horrors to get on the G40's
