Touring - True Temper OX Platinum tubes for touring bike?

Any opinions on whether this type of tubing is suitable for touring bikes? For example, the Rodriguez Ultimate Travel bike (http://www.rodcycle.com/) says this year it is a pound lighter because it is built with OX Platinum. Is this a good thing? Is this tubing lighter because it has thinner walls, and if so does that mean it would be more prone to accidental damage as a tourer?

I've got a touring bike with a downtube sticker proclaiming true temper OX, I don't know if that's true temper OX platinum.....

I think it rides great and will last fine, no problem....if you do a little google search for true temper tubing you'll discover some of the benefits of true tempers' air hardening and other manufacturing processes that make OX platinum a superior grade of bike steel...

No experience with OX platinum, but I know that's what Burley makes their touring frames out of. In their literature they say it's drawn thinner, but is also stiffer. Burley and Rodriguez are both well respected companies that wouldn't put poor materials in their frames. I'd trust the tubing based on their use of it.

Depends on the exact tubeset, and your weight etc... Henry James lists OX platinum in a number of tubes, none of which is all that heavy duty, though I don't know if there are other OX options that aren't listed.

I think Waterford uses it on their tourer as well.

The drivetrain on that bike is an unusual choice.

Gunnar also uses it on their Rock Tour which is intended for off road touring.

My custom frame is OX. Haven't had a problem in three years.
