Comp pools tires

I unrooted some 20"x1.75" Comp pools - excellent price. Had heard the second generation "pools" were undesirable for some reason. Anybody know the difference between the two, if any?..... max PSI rating maybe?

pools?Yes... "Pools", as in Tioga Comp Pools. A v-e-r-y low RR, 406 tire.

Ahhhh the Tioga Comp Pools....They're the only tyres worth using for a 20' wheel setup IMO- and extremly grippy in the wet too :) . The difference between 1st and 2nd gen is tyre pressures. 1st gen max Psi is 90psi whilst the 2nd gen only go to 60psi. Could this b due to moving location of production, as in to an asian country to save costs? Having said that, I got 2nd gen on my recumbent trike, wheelchair, and Ive got em at 80psi with no probs ATM, touch wood. Does any1 really think they'd giv us the absolute max pressue they can go to?....I dont think so

From dusty memory, I thought the 1st gens were rated a tad higher than 90 psi. Perhaps more likely, people were just experimenting with higher psi like yourself. No matter, these are the 90's I scored, so I ain't complaining. papa

I ran Tioga Comp Pools on my trike during our (wife and I) around Australia ride and got over 9,000km out of one set. Found them to be an excellent tyre, even at speed downhill on a loaded trike on an uneven road.

Picked up some vredestein S.Licks 20X1.3 for my Rans Tailwind. Anybody use these tires?

I have a set of S-Licks, but I'm not using them at the moment. They barely fit in my frame, and I found them to be quite a bit slower than Contis, Stelvios, or Primos. They are pretty durable, though.

Durable and inexpensive can be a good combo, at least for the time being. I assume 20" tires wear out faster than 700c, so I'll probably try something quicker before too long a time.

I don't remember S-Licks being inexpensive. Not quite as bad as Contis, though.

Not dirt cheap but not expensive from Bike Nashbar right now. That's the only tire they offer right now in that size.

At $14.99, they are a good deal! Normal retail is something just north of $30.00 apiece, and they can be hard to find in the US. They make good touring tires, or for rough conditions.
