hey guys this is kind of a follow up to my other thread regarding which frame to go for:

so far i found:

01 brand new schwinn moab 1 $150
93 specialized m2 fs used $50
01 used trek 8000 sl $75

i have read reviews on these bikes and it's really a toss between getting a moab1 or the m2. please help me decide, right now i'm leaning towards the m2 because it's cheap and the guy is local, the moab will have to be shipped and for the price difference i could pick up a nice RS sid fork.

I voted for the Schwinn. It's a nice frame, and it's new. You don't really know the history of the other two. My second choice would be M2, for the reasons you stated!

Schwinn a '93 won't take a SID (geometry) also isn't that back in the 1" steerer days??

the guy said the headtube is 1 1/8 on the m2. the fork isn't important because if it's 1" steerer i have a mag for that, if 1 1/8 i could always find another fork if not the sid.

so far looks like the schwinn is ahead. but i dont know if i have it in me to pass on the m2. do you think it makes that much a difference which frame i choose between the moab and the m2?

New never been ridden vs. 9 year old??? Little thing called fatigue life for one thing. Geometry for another. Four inch forks on an XC rig were unheard of back in '93. If it were me I'd get the Schwinn.

Hey-

I have an '01 Schwinn Moab 3. From my experience with the bike I'd go with the Schwinn. I would have one concern though. Wasn't there a big problem with finding derrailleur hangers after Pacific took over? My LBS told me they were cleaned out pretty soon after the news about Pacific became official. Might be something to consider.

P.S. - I might have missed something about this. If derraileur hangers have once again been made available for these bikes please correct me.

Just of note on the Derailer hanger comment...

You can take your frame or existing hanger to a machinist and have some made, for less than what they would charge for em at a shop.

I had forgotten about that option, scooby snax. I had heard of that and from some people who say it has worked well. Thanks for the reminder!
