I bought a Fuji Cross Comp Pro used last fall - mainly for commuting and hoping to try racing next season if I can get in shape - yeah right.

The bike is a 56cm alum framed cross bike like this but with Ultegra drivetrain and shifters:

Every once and a while my right heel hits the chainstay - its odd. I've never owned an Alum bike before - I'm used to the thin tubes of steel ;) I do not have huge feet - pretty normal size 10. What's up? It is just a combination of the extra mud clearance and thicker alum tubes that cause my heel to hit if I turn it in a little bit. And I mean a little bit - my SPDs have no float. It drives me crazy. Any ideas? Do any pedals have longer shafts (Q factor right?).

You might consider a slightly larger bottom bracket?

Some frames are built to avoid this problem, my Kona being one of them, at first I thought it was simply something they had done to make the bike look "different", but them I realized they had tweaked both stays to keep them out of the way of feet.

I was wearing a hole on the left side of my Fuji Cross pro I found a thick piece of clear plastic with adhesive on the back and put it over the part I was rubbing and all is good.

try a BB with a wider spindle. Its hard to give a sudgestion on what width since I dont know what crank/BB system you have now.

re the Kona: They actualy ride theyre bikes so they know whats going on. Plus it helps to have some seriously fast racers on them.

If you haven't done so, you can move your spd cleat to the inside of your shoe. Should buy you a few mm of clearance.
