General Cycling Discussion - Seat Tube Angle??

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I understand how head tube angle affects handling, but what about seat tube angle?

The seat tube angle wont directly affect handling, but it will affect the body posture. A more upright seat tube will put your body further forward for a time trial type of position. It will also permit the rear wheel to be positioned closer to the bottom bracket which will shorten the wheelbase.
My guess is that it more directly involves power transfer to the pedals as apposed to having much affect on bike handling... Maybe an effect in relation to a steeper seat tube placing your center of gravity a little more forward on the bike and vice-versa. Just my guess though.

but isnt it true that you can kinda tweak "virtual" seat tube angle by fore-aft adjustment of saddle position?

Yes, but that adjustment is used in order to more correctly position the patilla/knee cap - in relationship to its position with the ball of the foot/pedal spindal alignment. (Hope that came out right).
