What song out there would best tell the Race to Replace Lance story?
I need a theme for my online series that launches on May 15th and figured cyclists would be the ones to ask.

Do you need somebody to help you secure the rights to legally use said song?

Thanks for the offer but we have an internal group that handles that here at Discovery.

How about "Riders on the Storm" by the Doors?
The "Riders" concept works, and the feel and tempo of the song seems like it would fit really well with images of cyclists slogging through the grind.

How about "Centerfield" by John Foggerty?
The lyrics would be emphasized by interweaving old baseball footage with cycling footage... The hopeful, competitive mood of the song could be right on target for the theme.
It could be especially appropriate for the American audience...

Are you looking for Anthemic and reverential or are you looking for pulse-pounding? Are you looking for something cycling oriented, not related at all, or instrumental only? Are you thinking about genres? Hard Rock, progressive, jazz, blues, C&W, bluegrass, etc?
If you're leaning in a general direction, that'd be good to know.
Hmmmm - Didn't John Tesh do a cycling related album? ;)
I agree with Mo'Phat - any indication of style, tonality, genre, instrumental vs. lyrical etc. would be helpful.

Also let us know the style and look of the graphics. Whenever I'm doing a music search, that usually dictates the feel and tempo of the music.
Welcome to the terrordome - public enemy :)
I have no idea what the "race to replace" Lance story is. Are we in a hurry to replace him?
Here's some good riding music...

I agree with some of the other posts. What is the mood of the show going to be like? That would help tremendously on song selection.
Replace Lance! Impossible! How about:
Train in Vain - The Clash
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - U2
or
I Must Be High - Wilco
Just kidding. Actually I like the Rider's on the Storm suggestion.

I'm rocking Pearl Jam's "State of Love and Trust" and "Go" right now...
"Go" off of Vs. has this quirky intro, then hits you square in the mouth...might be interesting. Give it a listen.

If J.C. changes his name to 'Allah' there'll be a Fatwa (death sentence handed down by fundamentalist Islamic Mullahs) on his ass in a week and that will be it.

How 'bout "Act like the professional you supposedly are and don't post this all over the place ****ting up our forums"!
Honestly if you work for the Discover Channel / Fit TV productions and you need to go spam an internet forum to get song titles you need some serious help. You're lucky I'm not you're boss, cause I'd be pissed.

"Riders on the Storm" is a good suggestion.
I'll pitch a slightly two more intense tunes.
Hocus-Pocusby the group Focus has a lot of energy, drama (and even a little bit of yodeling to evoke mental images of the Alps!) - gives lots of natural opportunities to segue between short clips.
The other - quite a bit more modern: It's My Life by Bon Jovi - has a driving beat and lyrics that could fit with the topic.

"To Be The One" (http://cdbaby.com/mp3lofi/idaho2-01.m3u) by Idaho.
I'm a big Idaho fan and this particular song just has a natural cycling rhythm to it. The lyrics seem pretty apt too.
*shameless plug alert* My band Fey Ray (http://www.feyray.com/?page=media) also has a few songs that might work. "All Mixed Up Under A Tree" has a long, building instrumental intro that could be cool as opening music.

this gets my vote.
I can do anything
I can be crowned a king
It’s my time now
To play the beautiful game
Something inside of me
Won’t take them long to see
I’ve kept my vows
Things will never be the same
Closer now, in the sun I wanna stay
’Til those memories are burning
And broken times couldn’t mean more than today
I’m giving everything I’ve got now
To make them remember my name
I’m giving everything I’ve got now
To play the beautiful game
Up on my feet again
Kissing away the pain
It’s my time now
To taste this beautiful game
A new sense of urgency
Floods me internally
To show them how
Things will never be the same
Shining down, there’s a light in front of me
Help me find what I’ve been wanting
Not so far from the world I wanna see
I’m giving everything I got now
To make them remember my name
I’m giving everything I got now
To play the beautiful game (http://www.udora.com/vr3/index/)

Life by the Drop - Stevie Ray Vaughan
Just went and looked up the webisodes under discussion. I only see them in broken-up small bits because of my DSL-lite connection, but what I saw looked very nice as far as production values, graphics, choice of music (lots of different music, it seems). I found the actual content interesting also.
