Usually attributed to phonetic use of the French verb "Savoir" = to know. Blame it on the first world war.

YOu migth hear the terms
"Computer Savvy" "Tech savvy". This applies to a person with a thorough understanding of computers, who overall knows what they are doing.
Or a person overall who understands technology.
I have a friend who is the most electrically savvy kid I know. He can build any electrical circuit you desire, program PICS, you name it. I guess you could be cycling mechanics savvy too. Sydney was

If the tech guy had any savvy he wouldn't say you didn't have it.

Well he didn't help me get the cable working in the end. Don't buy un-genuine cables from eBAy! (or maybe its just my computer!).

Nope, but thanks for trying to be funny.
What does 'Savvy' mean?
Being born and raised in So Cal, I always thought it was from the Spanish:
sa·ber
tr.
to know
ella sabe lo que ocurrió: she knows what happened
(tener habilidad) to know how
¿sabes cocinar?: do you know how to cook?
to learn, find out
supe la noticia demasiado tarde: I learned the news too late
Yet another Gringo mispronounciation of Spanish.

According to my etymology reference, "savvy" is originally West Indian pidgin from either the French or the Spanish as above, both of which are from the Latin sapere, meaning "be wise". As are the English "sapient" and the "sapiens" bit in "**** sapiens".

No, the tech guy needed some tact; if he'd had some tact he wouldn't have said the guy wasn't savvy.
If the tech guy had had some manners he wouldn't have insulted him, either.
But this wouldn't have happened if the writers of the manual knew how to write in the first place. Some manuals I've gotten appear to have been written by using the Google translator service.
