I'm heading up there later today to pick up my reg pack. Thought it might be cool to meet someone for dinner or something.

Cheers.

Good luck! Yours might be the first of the season on the board, eh?

Have fun!

I did it last year. I personally didn't like it, so opted for the 1/2 IM down in Oceanside last weekend.

Let us know how it went.

I did Strawberry Fields yesterday.

After letting the first wave of swimmer off, they decided to cancel the swim because the current was too strong. The 1st group were an young-elite group. The swim should have taken about 10 minutes, but 1/2 hour later, it appeared only a handful had made it around the buoy. The rest were swept south of the buoy so they had to negotiate the 5 foot waves AND swim up current to the buoy.

Realizing that the swim would be dangerous for most, they cancelled the swim and they made us run about 400 yards in knee to waist deep water instead of the swim. It was harder than actually swimming. The bike portion was fast even though not all streets were closed to traffic. The 5 k was very blah as most of it went through a condo/residential area. Although the run was probably a few hundred yards from the water, it was not very scenic.

I'd do it again, if they can straighten out the swim portion. Maybe find some protected water somewhere around???

At 10 AM I blew it off and went home (the start time was supposed to be 9 AM). It was clear to me that they were having trouble figuring out what to do and I wasn't feeling all that well. It was a bit of a cluster-F#(&

i just missed you at the race.

i don't really know what call the poor guys could have made. while the kiddies they sent out looked like they weighed an average of 100lbs, i'm guessing that the majority of them had a swimming background.

i had a bit of a nightmare with my chip coming off with my wetsuit (WTF?!!) but the same thing happened to the first place woman and she backed me up. they were really cool about it and made the changes before awards

Bummer...I looked for you thinking you might be there but I was in a bit of a mood. Woke up in my hotel in the morning and had no water...I have trouble starting my day without a shower so it was just a bad start.

I agree that there wasn't much they could have done except maybe make up their minds a bit earlier. The funny thing is I think I might have won my age group if they had done the full swim. I knew I could get around the buoy and I probably would have completed the bike by the time the rest of the guys made it :)

We still gotta hook up for a ride soon. Maybe if it ever stops raining :)

Aw, c'mon you wusses. If it ever stops raining? Puh-lease.

Kidding, naturally. Couldn't help a friendly poke at a topic near and dear to my relocated heart. :)
