pass, cant stand the rpm system, been to rpm hell and not going back ever
fedora is also a "cutting edge" test distro, redhat can pay people to be guinea pigs methinks while they make $$ off open source gpl software

- yep, rpm 'dependency hell' is not fun; however, yum/synaptic/apt resolves this problem, even for rpm repositories (rpm is a technology/archive format - LOTS of info inside an rpm)...
- and yes, making money is part of Red Hat's business plan - always has been... but Red Hat is a 'good actor,' and has done much for open source development...
- if you want lightweight, a new mini-SLAC live CD, Slax, is out - 187MB! get it here: http://slax.linux-live.org/

I am going to try FC5, hoping it fixes the bugs in 4. THen I will try to tackle installing OpenCascade and its list of 20 dependencies.

I'll stick with slackware or my linux from scratch thanx, not that im against progress, but I grew out of upgradeitis a long time ago, I let winblows users deal with that. I havent even shut off my linux boxen in a long long time, one's showing an uptime of 18 months, the other about 12. Synaptic/yum/apt-get is fine for some things, but if youve got specific options you need to set for apps with dependencies it isnt so good, especially if you need to go back later and add something.
