General Cycling Discussion - gnein

I'm not sure if this guy is still around or not, but the word gnein has suddenly developed massive popularity at my university (don't ask me why). Now would probably be a good time to ask what it actually means.

If I remember rightly, he said it was a sound that him and his friend used to say to each other...I don't think it means anything... :confused:

I don't know the origin of the word, but a search on Google.com is interesting!

For one thing, it seems to refer to a type of agriculture practiced in Malta--so maybe Claude would know.

Does it mean "no" in German? Gno. That's "nein."

I did a search on "gnein" not to long ago, and the first result was BikeForums.Com :)

i've never heard of this word before! I found the site on google too. Funny thing is that if it was a Maltese word it is grammatically incorrect too. I'll ask around, however, 'cause you got me curious!

Form the German-language side of the house, "gnein" sounds like a combination of "genau" (correct or exact) and "nein" (no).

I have never heard this combination before, even in some of the local dialects. "Jein" (a combination of yes and no) is commonly used to answer a question where both apply, but this combo of "gnein" makes no sense.

FYI - the last person to post on the unicycling board uses gnein as his handle.

That's my take on it. Anyone else?
