I see that article as more of an attempt to besmirch the whole "buying online" experience then it is pinpointing a specific problem.

Doesn't seem all that much different that back in the '60s when people were paying top dollar for swampland in FL.
And down there, they even laid in roads and stuff... fly over the mid-central FL landscape and you see all these subdivisions with roads with maybe a house or two. Pretty amazing.
This is just the modern version of selling swampland.

Yeah, the joys of treating some things as investments that shouldn't be. A home should be a place to settle down and live a somewhat stable life in, not something to "flip".
I say the people who get bit by this were asking for it...if you want to treat it as an investment, fine...just don't cry when you get ripped off.
I place gambling and investing in the same category...only put in what you are willing to lose, and never do either unless you know the full details of the game at hand.

Don't go all moralist about it.
Some people make it look easy.
They have a lot of money to invest, hire a lot of people and buy a lot of materials and actually make some decent money doing this.
Other people think they can do the same, so of course you have those that bit off more than they could chew. Working for a house flipper first would be a good experience.

I know about the whole thing...I guess I'm just bitter since house prices are obscenely high because of people who buy just to "flip"....enough that I can't get one....which I would like since I would like to start my own business and run it from home while I'm getting it started....rental spaces are outrageously priced....at least the ones that allow for industrial work to be performed in them. (metalworking, PCB fab, soldering, etc)
