AHMEDABAD, India - A jobless man burned himself to death after his wife refused to serve him meat for dinner, Indian police said Sunday.

Sixty-year-old Mithailal Ram Sanjivan doused his body with a flammable liquid and set himself ablaze outside his one-room house in Ahmedabad, the main city of western Gujarat state.

Police said the victim, who had been without a job for years, and his wife, Geeta Sanjivan, 54, had a scuffle over the dinner menu.

The wife, who works as a domestic, refused to cook meat, saying they could not afford it.

Irritated by this, Sanjivan locked her in the house before setting himself on fire outside.

A lack of meat and animal fat it your diet CAN lead to extreme depression and rages of anger. He probably decided that he had nothing left to live for.

Yeah you got to look out for those vegans. They go NUTS!

Seriously I have a strong protein/fat type metabolism so I get really depressed and cranky without animal fats. If you can live on a vegan diet without instantly going ape then you would have to have a strong carbohydrate type metabolism but even then you would benefit from some dairy at least in your diet.

Instead of self-immolation, maybe he should have tossed her onto the BBQ instead, thereby solving two problems at once.

Anthony, have you considered that you may be getting depressed and cranky from the animal meat itself? I'm not vegan by any stretch of the imagination, but this year I have greatly reduced my meat intake (I shoot for 12 oz a week but haven't been that low yet) and almost eliminated dairy, and found myself to be calmer and happier than I can ever remember.

I've seen some of your other posts, and some of your vehement writings make it look like you are invested somehow in the meat industry. That's cool, I'm in the woodworking industry and get a bit defensive when met by treehuggers who tell me I'm killing the planet, so I can relate. But don't do it at a cost to your health; open yourself up to the possibilities mate.

See Dr Mercola, http://www.mercola.com and search for metabolic type diet. Something that the metabolic type diet does is achnowledge that we are not all the same and one diet doesn't fit all and that's what I was saying in that post. I tried to cut down on animal food and eat mostly vegetables but it didn't work for me and actualy I don't eat a lot of lean muscle meat anyway. I NEVER sit down to a big slab of meat. I have a bit of mince usualy cooked in bone broth (home made stock) and vegetables (onions, garlic, ginger, mushrooms, chinese cabage, sauerkraut(home made), ect. I love liver and chicken liver pate is a staple of mine. Home made of course.

And I need to add that coconut oil, beef talow or butter are my fats of choice although I use a little extra virgin olive oil as a salad oil only.

Uh, right. This mercola website is what I'm afraid is leading you down your dangerous path; I see you reference it all the time. To each his own, but when I read this website it looks like an obvious attempt by some meat producing corporate conglomerate to confuse the general public to the point where they can fool themselves into eating a diet high in meat and fat.

I don't think you would make it past the first chapter, but I do think you should attempt to read "Eat to Live". It has hundreds of references to dozens of different clinical studies; and I know from your various posts across several threads that you are dying to see some sort of "proof" or clinical study. There's a logic in this book's writing that is hard to dispute... unless of course you're determined to remain exactly as you are now.

WHAT!!

Your pulling my chain right:eek:

Dr Mercola's site isn't one I post often. The one I post the most is http://www.westonaprice.org and if you think that either group is a propaganda arm for big meat corporations you obviously haven't read them and don't have a CLUE!

Both the Weston A Price Foundation and Dr Mercola would like to see the end of factory farming and a return to family run/managed free range pasturing for ALL livestock.

I sometimes think that if people stress so much about their calorie intake and all that other crap that it would have a more detrimental effect on their body, then if they just ate smart, healthy but still had time to enjoy the finer things on this world :p

I wouldn't describe "Eat to Live" as necessairly advocating a pro-vegan lifestyle. It's anti-processed foods, and pro-filling up on plant based high nutrient food; if you want some meat then eat it, I do. I'd agree thousands of years can't be wrong. It's the availablilty of the processed food in the last 100 years, along with the suspension of using the body for physical activity, that has led to obesity, diabetes, cancer, etc. I do think that AngrythonyG would work out some of his issues with less meat though... certainly there could be other issues...

Actualy regarding the origional post, it probably has a lot to do with cultural issues as well. Commiting suicide as a protest is actualy quite common in India.

To Redrom, take a chill pill and get over it.
