I've already ridden more this year than last. That means more miles, more days, more centuries. I've been passed by everything that I can think of, and a few I would have never guessed. There were all those guys that hammered up Honey Run Hill and the only way I could slow them down was to tell them it would be easier if I wasn't stuck in the big ring. Some looked, some laughed, mostly they blew by me. Bill and I were passed by a bridge. Larry, Jim and I were passed by 2 outhouses and a barbeque pit zipped by me going up Foxen Canyon.

I had good days, too. I had a hammer suck my wheel for a mile before I lost him on Harris Grade. I met a gentleman a month later on the same hill that bragged about riding the Grade naked (interesting imaging). I had a guy complain that he hated riding with hammers like me, should have had him sign an affidavit. I had very few flats, warm weather and only twice was I caught in the rain.

What am I saying here? As soon as the weather turns bad (a relative concept since this is So Cal) it's the winter training season. Time to exercise on the sofa and eat foods that are balanced...like pizza. You know, the food that can have up to 4 of the food groups in one bite.

The only rollers I'll see will start hanging over my belt and I will have to start thinking of pain in mid-January. It will be then that I earn the Old Guys That Get Fat in the Winter jersey. Good Season. Happy Holidays.
