Mountain Biking - KHS FR 2000 (Freeride Model)

I was wondering if anyone has seen or ridden the new KHS FR 2000 (http://www.khsbicycles.com/page86.html) freeride bike. Our team is putting an order through and I can get it for a good price. I've added my name to it for the bike and I was wondering what everyone thinks about it or what they don't think about it.

What kind of riding? Have you tested one, thoroughly...I would be concerned with durability of the frame with how cheap khs is. I would take the bike for a suitably tough test run before ordering it for a whole team.

No, I'm not ordering it for a whole team. Our college team is sponsored by them so we get their bikes at a cheaper price. The order for everything is placed as a team with everyone individually placing what they want.

Seems like a pretty basic 4-bar design, similar to many bikes out there, Kona to name just one! This is a design that's been refined over the years and one of the best designs IMO. The frame looks pretty burly, and the spec is very good for the $$$$$. If you can get a good deal on it, I'd go for it. If you don't like it, you could always sell it and break even!

Yea. I was also looking at the Kona Stinky which comes to about the same price $1500, which is what I would pay for the two. I want a more "bashable" bike than my hardtail I currently have. I think I will probably just wait until another order goes out after I have compared a few models as I don't want to shoot a hole in my pocket.

KHS frames are actually preity strong for what they cost. The lack in how well the components fit and the geometry. I know a couple of riders that ride KHS but they are looking for new rigs.

Hands down the Stinky is a far better bike. If it is the new '03 you would get then the Stinky is definitly the way to go. It now has 7" of travel in the back and the frames are stronger and the company is easy to deal with. If you can either bike for the same price go with the Stinky.

That's the gyst I was getting from reading past posts on Kona etc.. The downside to the KHS is also the wait and assembly cost involved. I found a Stinky Dee Lux that has been ugraded for $1500 too in my area back home that I might check out when I go home next weekend. But I am skeptical since I don't think I'd be able to tell frame stress that much. At least that's what I think.

Are you sure? I looked on the Kona website and it said the Stinky had 6". I could totally be wrong. Then again, I guess I could eventually replace the rear shock if the frame accomadated it. I'm just looking to go from xc to freeriding to change things up a little bit.

My bad. I was thinking of the Stinky Primo. But either way the Kona is a better bike.

My son rides one of the KHS Team ST's. I like the bike, but they will NOT honor their warranty.
