I'm a 30 year old and just got a new bike last year. I had minor back surgery for a herniated disk 3 years ago. Do any of you guys know if it's a bad idea to be doing trail riding and maybe some local racing events (nothing "radical" just doubles and moderate jumping). And should I avoid bunnyhops because of the upward pulling required?
I asked my surgeon and he said biking is fine but I don't think he knows much about bmx.
Thanks

Slowly assess how much activity you can tolerate.
I had a compression fracture of my L1 vertebrae when I was 18 (35 now) & I can tolerate more than you're wanting to do.
No one can truly predict what you can/can't do...just be careful!
Seek the advice of a qualified sports therapist. Even if you have to take your bike in and pay for a visit, it will be worth it to get good advice, especially if it helps you avoid further injury. Check your phone book, and call around until you find someone that understands your questions.
