Hi Everybody-
I've had a case of bacterial pneumonia for about 1.5 weeks that landed me in the hospital for 4 days with a 104 fever and a splitting headache. What can I do to get back to racing form as quickly as possible? I was in great shape for this time of year and I'd really hate to lose all that training. Thanks!

I had a pretty good chest cold where I hacked a bunch of crap out of my chest in early/mid February that kept me off the bike for over 10 days, but it wasn't pneumonia.....I started up with a couple easy spins on the trainer and gradually brought the intensity back over the next 2-3 rides after that.
I finally stopped coughing only a few weeks ago or so. Good luck.

stay hydrated...dont work too hard for a few weeks.
Just because you're feeling a tad better doesnt mean your body is ready for it. You just spent MASSIVE amounts of resources fighting a vigorous infection. Give your body time to fully recover before you go out and make it work harder.

Agreed, Bacterial Pneumonia can scar your lungs and too much early exertion can damage them further. Take it easy for a bit and SLOWLY build up back into the swing of it. I'd also suggest you consult your doctor as to how much is too much! The last part, by the way, is the most important part of my advice!

Thanks for the replies... my doctor was on the German Pro Team so he knows a thing or two about the bike, he said to wait a week or two and start slowly, but he also said I'd probably lose all my base training so I won't be able to go fast.
