Cannondale Road Tandem ?'s

We just ordered a X/M but only rode a X/S and a mountain X/M. If anyone knows the stoker bar width for either of the road frame sizes I could use the info. I'm not sure it will prove to be a problem but I was rubbing the bars with my leg. I hope the X/M comes with wider bars or when I'm in shorts instead of jeans I'll clear the bar enough. We were told approx 4/25 for the bike to get to the shop. Any other suggestions would be great, the more I know when I get to the shop the better. They seem real helpful, but i like more than one opinion. Thanks

We have an '05 Cannondale road tandem (M/S). It's really been a good purchase. I hope you will enjoy yours as much as we do ours. I don't know about bar sizes for your frame, sorry. I can't speak for your LBS, but I can tell you that ours would gladly change out equal (sometimes, even better) components at no charge. They did upgrade our saddles, built up a different stoker stem, and provided a Delta stem riser for me (the captain). He also threw in 3 water bottle cages, handle bar cushion and three spare tubes, all at no charge. They threw all this in after the transaction took place; so it wasn't like I had him over a ($)barrel or negotiated this before the deal was made. My opinion, a good bike shop will usually do some of these type of things. I've had this type of experience with two different local bike shops, so I think it's the norm around here, anyway. It's simple, this is good business.

I've got Cdale road... the stoker bars are about 46cm wide.

For the 46cm bars what frame size are they on? The lbs told me the X/M would be wider than the X/S. Of course I didn't think to measure the ones at the shop.

Have you tried the Cannondale web site? They should have parts spec and geometry for all current and recent models.

The 46s are on a L/S. I'd be kind of surprised if they were different on other sizes. Let us know if you find out different. FWIW- the stoker bars on my CO MO are 42cm road drops and they're close up towards me; I never hit them. I'd be willing to bet the real troubles is your stoker's bars need to be adjusted.

Well I can't find any info on the Cannondale website,so I sent them a e-mail. I'm sure it will all be fine the shop set the bars for my wife, but I think the saddle was way back on the rails. She said I was hitting her hands when she was on the flat part of the bars. The bullhorns seem real long so if nothing else works they may get customized after I get it home. Got a reply from Cannondale they said the stokerbars are the same both 46 cm for the XS or XM size frame. So hopefully the extra inch in the rear top tube will be enough to allow the adjustments needed.

Also if you are running wider tires how big will fit? It now comes with 28's down from 30's in 2005, my wife wants to be able to ride on the gravel rail trail near our house. She is uncomfortable with the idea of pulling the Burley on the road.

Thanks for the tire size I think the shop will swap out to a larger size tire for us when we get the bike. 28's seem to narrow for the gravel, I'm thinking 32's or bigger depending on what they have in stock.
