Fifty Plus (50+) - Notice my New Shiny Red Star...So Far Doesn't Hurt...Who'll Join Me??

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

NOS88 pointed out that only about 1 in 5 users are paid members of BF. So, I joined. Guess I'm one of "them" now. Its a standard membership for 32 years, which will catch me up to age 91...just about the time I'll take it easy on myself and switch to brifters and maybe carbon fiber--if the bugs have been ironed out by then.

I suppose I'll be going out for beers and chimichangas with Koffee Brown and stuff, but I probably won't agree to become a mod until Dnvr also does. Nice thing, now I feel free to rag even more.....but, have to admit, the site is running much smoother this afternoon. I wonder if my cycling will improve...is there a member's jersey?

- good for you! this forum is one of the reasons i wanted to help... it's kinda like a nice place of sanity from some of the other forums...

- i have read several threads about jerseys, but have never seen anything come out of the discussions?

- anyway, enjoy your membership! (i'll have to renew at 83)

:-)

A few years back a BF Jersey was designed and sold. I bought one. Unfortunately, they were "Eurpoean Cut" and the XL I ordered fit my wife, but not me. She now has a BFN jersey and has never posted!

There is a web site where you can purchase Underwear Nazi stuff. It even has some drivel about me and underwear! I'll have to look that up. It is in the signature of Underwear Nazi.

Hey Granny Gear.. I've been trying to up grade to a membership level for the past 2 months since I discovered this web site. I'm not very computer literate, and decided to try one last time when I saw your post! Took me about 1/2 hour with quite a number of nasty words, but finally did manage to not only find out where, but to set up a Pay Pal and all that computer age stuff. Wish they had a simple button to click on that would take you to their site, and a simple thing to accept a credit card, etc. Sure could be more user fiendly for non geeks like me!
Anyway, I'll be signed in officially till I'm 94! Wonder if my 'bent bike (or me) will last that long?

DF, you're a trouble maker. Too many interesting ideas.

These may not add to BF but would aid cycling interest. My list of the best of 1700 cafepress

OK, this is driving me nuts. I've tried to join and kick in my $25 four times today... with no success. I'm gonna try one more time...

NOS88....[in a gentle voice] Membership is exclusive-- come back when you're a little older and therefore more suitable. :)

Or, if you prefer, the site is still running rough. I found it easy, too easy, yesterday to simply go to "User Control Panel" then click "Paid Subscriptions". PayPal or straight to charge card...fine with them.

Yeah, yeah, yeah... I tried the User Control Panel and Piad Subscription route with no success. I'll try again tomorrow.

I didn't want to set up under Pay Pal. I just sent Joe a check. It took a week, but I was in no rush.

When I joined, the only option was paypal. I tried to figure out an alternative for two months. (Hey, I had an over 50 moment and kept forgetting about paypal.) Finally I gave in and obtained a paypal account just so I could support BF. Naturally, once I obtained paypal, I started using it on ebay.
Sooo, does that mean BF is responsible for my obsessive purchasing of bike stuff on ebay? :D
Can I sue?

It's the new (and real) me! Complete with shiny new star ( I should get 1 1/2 stars for paying the lousy Cdn exchange rate!) Under the hat you would notice a striking resemblance to my previous avatar!

Cool avatar!

Now, why is your whole name in red? Is that for new paying members?

EDIT: Wait! I'm in red too. Have I always been in red? I'm so confused. :)

Hey, DG - you've been sitting on that saddle too long!

Red means you are "signed on" to the forum.:D

CheeseflavorSteve, Deege, Bob S., and any others............you did the right thing and built up much good karma...........Your roads will be smooth, your spokes tight, and your glue tubes never dried up.

(Not that I speak with the Voice of Bicycle Forums....I'll leave that to the darker red stars.....you didn't know they came in gradations?)

Just in case the unemotional internet isn't conveying my intentions properly, Steve, let me clearly say that I laughed thoroughly and heartily at your photoshop of me, and was not, not even in the slightest bit, offended in any way. I think you already know that, but just to be sure...

Of course, that in no way means I won't get even some time, some way, somehow. Just saying... :D

Looking forward to seeing my little red star!! Oh well, I guess the kids in college can do without for a week or so........ I was getting a complex as I was wondering if not be paid up was the cause for my not being able to post.

I need to put a note in the file that my next payment is due when I'm 85.
