Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - ziptied spokes to frame, chain...wtf?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Someone ziptied the ***** outta my bike. 5 or 6 from spokes to frame/fork, one from spoke to chain. WTF? Today was long enough. Midterm, then a group presentation, followed by class from 7-9:45. Come out out happy day is over to find this?

I tried forcin them off, but didn't like how this tweaked my spokes. hmmm...15mm wrench, check, multitiool, check, tire irons, check...scissors? wirecutters? nope. Keys didn't work either.

Now, while this may or may not have posed grave danger to my physical being, it was definitely a pain in the arse. Practical joke? Random hater?

As far as I know, I haven't made any enemies at SF State. I put a naked lady playing card in some kids fixie spokes not too long back, but I think he thought this funny, certainly harmless.

Anyone heard or seen ***** like this, at SF State or otherwise?

i haven't heard of it (otherwise, i'm not at SF state), but you've just planted the seed in the minds of thousands all over the world by posting.

If you take the smallest allen key on your multi-tool, you might be able to get it under the latch on the zip tie so that it comes off easy... A small key might work too. Depends on the size of the zip ties.

sharp scissors/pruning snips or large finger nail clippers...would be my choice or burn em' off...

Yeah, I got them off, with scissors I had to hunt down. Whatever, I just posted here to rant frustation. Kids these days...

haha, i doubt that person really hated you. if i had an enemy and i was intent on screwing with their bike, i would probably go to town on all of their allen bolts with a smaller sized key, stripping them round. now that would piss someone off.

yeah, my multi-tool has a knife. get a multi-tool!

once when i was living in oregon i was seeing this girl for a few weeks and decided it wasn't happening, so i told her i didn't wanna date anymore. i was really nice about it and all but she was PISSED. anyway, the next morning i go outside (i just had this single speed beater i rode to class) and i grab the bars and ****ING CRISCO is ALL over them and now all over my hands. then i notice it's all over the entire bike, seat, pedals, tubing... i think there was even some on the tires. that **** was a pain to get off. the girl was kinda nutty. i ended up meeting a guy in her hometown who said she used to be into his friends and when he turned her down she would go by his work everyday for a couple of weeks and let the air out of his bike tires.

hell hath no fury...

Haahahahahahha,
Sorry but that is ****ing hilarious, the zipties that is.
nail clippers, wire cutters, or leverage will work mostly, but I like the burning, It won't hurt the bike and you can always find a lighter.

Sorry though.

Leatherman or Swiss Army knife. Never leave home without one or the other. ;)

Maybe a pre-April Fools joke warning? Don't lock your bike there come April 1.

Way back when I was in school, my roomate and I were drinking beer one afternoon when we spied a mountain bike locked to a post out the window. So, we gathered up as many u-locks as we could find - about 8 - and went out and locked the heck out of the bike. Then we sat there drinking beer and waiting for the owner to return.

About 4 hours later, we got bored, went out and unlocked the bike. Never did see the owner return. We got pretty drunk, though.

Just start telling your friends, one by one, about this terrible incident. The one who is trying really hard not to laugh as you tell the story is the culprit.

dude..that's some seriously funny sh*t. i'm going to start doing that to friends bikes locked up at the bar and watch them handle the situation while being wasted.

wow, i ride my bike to state on a regular basis too and nothing like this has ever happened to me...i lock up in front of the humanities building. which bike is yours and where was it locked?

honestly, it doesnt sound like someone was trying to sabotage your bike, so i wouldn't worry about fellow cyclists- it was most likely some idiot who happened to have some zipties in his/her hand and thought it'd be funny to **** with people's stuff.

i'll keep a lookout for this phantom ziptier.

I use zipties for my luggage zippers and carry a small nail cutter with me. It's a good thing I never take it off my keyring.... At least all you got were zip ties.

+1 on the leatherman.

it could be worse, he/she/they could have put padlocks on your chainring.

Padlock the chain to the spokes.

Hypothetically, of course.

Today at work, one guy took all the tools out of another guy's pouch and put them all over a material cart.

The victim got him back by flipping over his hacksaw blade.

When he went to saw a piece of conduit...slip!

Oh, jokes.

Carry a box cutter at all times so you can terrorist style on mofo's a55e5, including the zipties.
