Foo - Replacing the master cylinder resivor?

I have been having brake issues, and last night I noticed that nice cat piss smell of brake fluid all inside my hood. Upon inspection, I noticed fluid squirting out from the interface between the cylinder and the resivor. Is this a hard fix? So far, from what I can tell, it is a matter of pulling straight up on the old one and putting on a new one.

Could be as simple as replacing an O-ring....

I think thats the only problem. Grommett kits are cheap, no?yeah, no need to get an entire kit though unless you're anticipating future repairs. Pull the resevoir off and take a look at the O-ring. It's probably flattened out, you'll want a new one with a round cross-section so it applies some pressure to seal. Take the resevoir with O-ring down to any auto-parts place and ask for a replacement O-ring. They shoudl then pull out their grommet kit and you pick out one that matches. About $1.00 apiece usually. :)

Oh, man. Turned out that my initial assessment was WAYYYY wrong. My friend looked underhood while I hit the brakes and saw fluid shooting from a line. Turns out that I had a corroded line. Took it to the shop, it'll be fixed tomorrow.

If you have fluid blasting out of there you obviouisly need more than a cap seal:rolleyes:

How old is the car? Probably replace the MC along with the lines.

I had a brake line go once when I slammed on the brakes, scarred the sh*t out of me.....
