BMX - Macneil?

I think Macneil bikes look cool, but they seem to be really spendy. Is that because they're made in Canada instead of Taiwan, or are they just jacking on image alone?

I'm interested in your take on them. Shoot.

I figured. So they're just selling at a premium because of image, or is there something special I'm missing? I do think they make cool looking bikes though.

Low sales volume + high quality = not cheap no matter what country you manufacture in.

Macneil frames are some of the cheaper (lower cost) high quality frames out there right now. what are you comparing them too?

look at S&M, FMB and some of the other higher cost frames...the Macneil stuff starts to look a lot lower priced.

Just flipping through the pages of Dan's or surfing around the net looking at bikes, I liked the look of Macneils. I wasn't putting them down by any means, just wondering what made them worth their price. Compared to other topline bikes, they aren't overly pricy, but seeing as their frames sell for what a decent complete would sell for, I was just trying to see if it was the goods or just hype. Sounds like they're the real deal, eh?

Care to explain why you think there expensive...

those completes are not 'pro' quality. while they can be very good bikes for a entry level rider, most of the parts wouldn't hold up to someone who has been riding longer or who rides very hard/or a lot.

Macniel frames, all of them, are 'pro' quality. they are designed to be riden as hard as possible. all of the Macniel frames are actually ridden by the Macniel team. a lot of the completes you see are not bikes that the sponsored riders ride.

I'm curious how the Macniel frames look different to you then all the other frames? to me, they all look the same. same angles. just different paint....

Jeesus, the Spanish Inquisition. lol. I just noticed that Macneil parts in general are on the high end of the price scale. Not necessarily the most expensive, but never in the bottom half of the price scale. I wasn't making any statement on them not being worth the price, just checking in with the new school folks on if they are indeed worth the price. I'm an old school guy from waaaay back. I'm thinking about buying a newer bike to bang around the neighborhood, and I wanted the scoop. FWIW, I think the Macneil Team Issue in flat black is badass. I just didn't want to drop $300 on a frame that was junk or hype. Sounds like Macneil is the real deal, so it stays at the top of the list. Thanks, all!
