"I've done it!"

I managed to commute to my local train station for the entire winter! That makes a full year of car free living to work and back (plus grocery trips & stuff).

The winter riding was really only bad during the wet damp days. When it was -10C it actually wasn't bad and the ice along my path really didn't affect the mountain bike I used, snow was only bad right after a storm and the roads were cleared pretty quickly (to get the cars moving..hee..hee).

Now it's +10C and i've got the whole spring/summer/fall to look forward to and winter again. Car sits around mostly looking lonely.

Good job, Harwood. I missed a few days, with some major snow and ice, but I rode more miles in 2005 than ever, and 2006 has started out with even more!

I too just completed my first full winter of riding. It was great. Average temp was about -15C (5F). There was about a two week period of -30C (-22F), those were tough. The only missed days were from snow storms and there were less than five days that I couldn't do it. I've never had this many kms in this early in the year. Investing in proper clothing and lighting was the best thing I did. It sure is hard the machine though. Had it in a few times for repairs. The constant darkness was hard to deal with also. Motorist were more unbearable and more impatient. I'll tell you this, I am definately a better person for it. For those who say stuff like "idiot", "moron", (%$%&&^%$#*), suck it up. My personal favorite was "I hope you get hit so I can enjoy the hot buffet at your funeral", real nice. There's my rant, and here's to another great year on the bike.

g. bucci sorry to here about thouths winnipeg motorists. got hit by one 8 years ago. called a radio show about my experence. next caller says i deserve to be injuried. boy was i mad. any how i have so many close calls riding my bicycle and dealing with autopac, i left manitoba forever. yukon rocks
