Maybe not the best ones technically, but they make an impact:

Blind Faith: Had To Cry Today
Captain Beefheart: Moonlight On Vermont
The Kinks: Lola, (and many others)
The Beatles: Ticket To Ride, Daytripper
Led Zeppelinn: Black Dog (the vocal is superfluous...this song is entirely a riff)
King Crimson: Red (massive rolling thunder riff mows down everything in its path)
Bela Bartok: Piano Concerto #1, middle movement (Bartok deploys piano tone clusters, literally pounded out with fist and forearms...this music is very angry and furious; I love it!)
AC/DC- Dog Eat Dog
AC/DC- Back In Black
AC/DC- Hells Bells
AC/DC- Dirt Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
The list goes on for AC/DC...

Yeah lots of great riffs from Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb is also one of my favorites.
OK here are some that NEED to be on the list,
Barracuda by Heart. One of the BIGGEST arse kicking riffs of all time.
We will Rock You by Queen. Absolute classic.
Not that I've ever been into glam rock but Kick Start My Heart by Motley Crue was a riff that always got me going.
Regards, Anthony

I'd imagine off stage he's a jeans & tee-shirt kinda guy. Not really any more eccentric than someone like Ric Flair, Dennis Rodman or Tyrell Owens... Just way more funk!

No way. Bootsy dresses like a pimp peacock on acid all of the time. Even to mow the lawns or go get the paper in the morning.
The Eleven on Live Dead, for that matter Live Dead the entire album. It is almost 1 long riff. and as a bonus you'll swear you can see the "Matrix" of life around you.:D

Nobody knows the name "Chuck Berry?" All later rock sounds SO wimpy after "Johnny B. Goode."
Honorable mentions--either Hubert Sumlin or Buddy Guy playing on "Hidden Charms" by Howlin' Wolf, and
Django Reinhardt on "HCQ Strut."

Enter Sandman-Metalica

Take a listen to Fried Hockey Boogie by Canned Heat from 1967. ZZ Top stole it from Canned Heat. Canned Heat probably stole it from John Lee Hooker.

+1 This is my fave.....it's not the most talented, but has the most style I think.
Another of my faves...not sure if its really a riff though...it's a slow instrumental guitar song, and again, not the most talented guirtar playing, but major kudos on sound and style.

You all drank the bongwater, and forgot the #1 riff of all time:
Mannish Boy by Muddy Waters
     :beer::beer::beer:
All rock riffs are derivative of the original barnstormer. Yes, even Ionni admits it.
Threads over, go home, thanks for playing!
