Road Cycling - Cenataur for a good deal?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Rcently a freind of mine crashed his litespeed anatres, but almost all the parts remained intact(except frame and handlbars). The componenets, centaur, were offered to me for about 300 dollars or so. This bike is very new, purchsed from the shop a few months ago. I was wondering if this is reasonable. I would get everything; crnaks, rear wheel, derrailers, bb, shifters, brakes and prossible stem, and other parts, but basically the whoel drivetrain. Reasonable or not?
Thanks

It seems to me a pretty good deal. I mean, I have a complete Daytona which is the same thing and it rocks. Knowing this forum, though, you will probably get all kinds of debate over this.:o

It sounds like a very good deal, just make sure you have someone that knows (not thinks they know) look at all the parts.

And I thought Cane was supposed be the rudest person in the forum. I think I'm going to puke.
You can buy a new Centaur gruppo for just over 400 EUR if you look hard. Just another data point.

isn't 1 euro about equal to a dollar? if so, then $300 dollars would be less then $400. I would rather pay 300 dollars for a group then 400 dollars, but then again, I dont know about you guys.
Just another data point;)

Plus, if it is a friend of yours, and the stuff is in almost new condition, why not? I thought us bicycle type people were supposed to help each other out!
then $300 dollars would be less then $400
I would have thought that $300 was always less than $400. But in any case, yes - the exchange is around 1 EUR : $1.02 these days.
But to what I think may have been your actual point: it could be a matter of new vs old; truly known vs perhaps less well known condition; warranty vs no warranty; ability to get service as a result vs none; etc.
And if you look closer, it wasn't a recommendation. In fact, it was just a data point.

Yes I think it's a good deal if everything is in good order. I just paid 550.00 for mine. BTW if you are not a Campy owner already it will feel different than your Shimano stuff. I love mine, some do not like the feel.

REally? Do the campy centaur shifters break in eventaully? Because i know that they are pretty stiff at first.
Thanks

I did not feel that mine were all that stiff. They have more of a mechanical feel than Shimano. The saying is that Shimano wears out and Campy wears in. I've got both and they are equaly good in my opinion. It's a matter of preference and I just happen to like Campy a little better. I have mine on a CAAD 5. My next will be chorus on a nice Italian frame. Good luck.
