Rode 31 miles for the first time today and it was great. Have had my clipless pedals now for three weeks and---do I dare jinx it---I have not fallen yet. Those pedals are fantastic. What made today so much fun was I ended up seeing another rider about 1/2 mile ahead of me after having ridden 22 miles. I decided to try to reel him in and did!! I went on past him and kept up the pace til the end. Felt great!! The whole morning was a great sense of accomplishment since dusting off my bike in October 05 to lose weight. Have lost over 50 pounds now!

This was a flat course with a mild wind for the first half. I ended up averaging a little better than 17 mph for the morning. When I was reeling the other rider in---I picked up the pace to around 20 mph and maintained that for the last 15 to 20 minutes. Where does 17 mph fit in the scheme of things considering I'm still an overweight 52 year old? Slow--Average---Above Average---Fast?

50 lbs lost-You'd better pass on a few tips!!!!31 miles is a good ride- even with the weather being kind to you and 17mph- Hope that wind was behind you all the way- or you are showing us more experienced riders up. Only consolation we have is that you still have the falling over to come- Can't wait for it. Well we have to have some compensation for goals you are achieving.

Sounds like a great ride. 50lbs since Oct is fantastic, I've been ridign 100mi/week + and have only managed to loose about 12lbs. Of course I not as good as limiting my intake as I am at going out for my rides. Like Stapfam and his pies, I am somewhat addicted to the Italian pie.

You can be proud of 17mph average. That is GOOD!

Nice work. I've lost 45lbs since starting last July. An average speed of 17mph is a moderate/brisk pace (leaning to brisk) with the people I ride with. It'll definitely take the weight off. 20 mph is gittin' down the road. I cruise at about 17-19 on my T520 on the flats. A little wind up front and I drop to about 14-17. Just went to SPD's from platforms last week for the first time. I haven't clocked my speeds yet with them. They sure make turning 'em over much easier. Now I know what all the hooplah is about.:)

Fantastic!! You have some terrific riding roads in your area. I'm coming down from NC to do the Cheaha Challenge Century in Anniston/Piedmont on May 7. You should think about doing the shorter route of that ride ths year and shoot for the Century in '07!!! Come join me!!
