View Full Version : v-brakes vs u-brakes
are u-brakes primarily used with bmx bikes or are v-brakes used just as often? aren't v-brakes stronger? will these fit on a bmx frame no problem?

V-Brakes are on race frames, and yes, they do work better. But they're more in the way than u-brakes, so they're not used very often on freestyle frames.

If you want V-Brakes on your regular frame, you can buy V-brake plates from DansComp for your frame that allow you to, use them...

oh..wait a minute. now i am confused. i thought they would fit directly on?? i need the adapter plate? please verify this. can you post a link or pic of what i need?
are you sure it doesn't work directly on the frame...i thought those canti bosses were all the same?

Just looking at v-brakes and u-brakes, it should be pretty obvious that they're not going to work off the same kind of mount. If the frame has canti bosses, v-brakes will be compatible; if it has 990 mounts, they will not be.

oh okay...now i see the totally different pivot point. most bmx frames come with u-brake mounts...right? like the standard 250s. it doesn't say on their site.

Yes, the 250S (and basically every other freestyle frame on the market, short of custom and mod jobs) will have u-brake mounts.
