I've read many posts on these forums, of guys with sig. others who cannot convince them to ride. I was in the same boat, until yesterday!
My wife HATED riding her DF bike. It caused her pain that is normally reserved for men, and that didn't benefit either of us. I had bought her a new Trek (7300fx) about a year ago, and she has ridden it perhaps 10km since then (it's for sale now, big surprise!). When I started my business selling recumbents, I thought she might enjoy riding a SWB bent. It solved the pian issue very easily (as we thought it would), but she could never quite get the hang of balancing it. After performing a humiliating 0km-fall in our driveway, she stormed off swearing she'd never get on a vehicle with two wheels ever again. Bummer.
Enter: The Trike
I received a trike a few days ago, and I'm not sure who was looking forward to trying it first. I set it up for myself first, tweaked all the adjustments so they worked smoothly, and rode it around for about 10km in the morning. It was a blast, let me tell you! Tree-lined, leaf plastered dirt trails in particular, if you've got the right wheels. But I digress...
In the afternoon, the trike was set up for my wife to try. No pain? Check. No balance issues? Check. We were off! She probably rode further in that afternoon than she had in years. She was slow (no 'bent legs!) and tired easily (no bike stamina), but she had a GOOD TIME. And that was the point, after all. By the summer she will have her own trike, and I'm really looking forward to riding around with her. She'll build stamina and strength, she'll actually enjoy riding a trike. It's gonna be great.
So to all you guys, who can't convince your wife to ride a bike, try a trike instead. You may just have a bit more success!
