Living Car Free - sold my truck

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well, as of 3 days ago, I'm officially car free. I'm still in shock about it, I keep looking for my truck to be parked in its usual place. It's very exciting though, yet also a bit scary, to be totally dependant on my bike and feet. Not that it's a bad thing, it's just a big change.
Ironically, I've been in cars more in the last 3 days, now that I sold my truck. Unavoidable stuff, like my mom's birthday dinner, but it's kind of funny that I've been driving (ok, passengering) so much lately, after having sold my own vehicle. But don't worry, this isn't going to be the norm. ;)

Nice! Got rid of my truck a couple of weeks ago. I know what ya mean about it feeling a bit strange. Every time I leave the house it's just feels odd that my truck no longer is parked out front, or no vehicle of mine at all for that matter! I wish this was something I had done years ago as I'm learning just how able I am to manage my needs using my bike. Not just manage my needs but have one hell of a time doing it as well. :D

Congradulations:
With the money you saved from not paying for gas, insurance, repairs etc, you can start saving. Good luck.

You can always rent a car for the occasional weekend once a moth or a few times a year. Cars/Trucks should probably be seen more like renting a heavy tool from a supply company, it's great for the occasional stocking-up on items or moving a couch but like the rented tool you wouldn't want to keep a backhoe at your place all year round.
I do short trips to the grocery store, although a trailer would be fun...
I even went to the auto parts store to fix my friends car. Deliverd the autoparts on my bike, I fixed the exhaust, he drives happily away...talk about irony... :)
Cheers.

Its a good life style, im not aloud to drive, too young, i would love to own a car, but even if i did i would still use my bike alot. I think it is a waste of money biking to places you can easily get to by foot or car, for example my dad quite regulary drives up town, about a 10minute walk away, it takes me 3-4mins to bike down there, so even if u do own a car, dont use it when you can bike! Biking is funner, easier, and it might not seem it, but faster in a lot of cases too, as u don't need to stop for traffic, or when the lights are on red just get on the path and round you go! lol...

Very true. Most people seem to think it takes so much longer to get places on a bike as a opposed to driving a car, but around town it's actually not a big difference. I can ride leisurely to my local bike shop in about 20 minutes, yet it takes a good 15 minutes to drive there and is a lot less fun. :D Bicycles rock.
