I've been using my BMX to get around lately (5-15 miles/day), instead of my MTB. I've noticed a big lower back strength improvement (80+ percent of ride standing on pedals), and the high cadence is helping to build up my endurance a little, but I was wondering what thoughts you had on other detriments/benefits to come from using this as a 'commuter' bike?

Detriments? Your MTB will begin to feel like a huge, heavy, bulky thing you can't stand to ride. Oh wait, that's a benefit... haha, j/k

It's got to be a good thing, work out different muscles and spread the wear on your bikes out more.

More fun per mile.
