I'm not really sure of the quality of Centaur, or what it relates to in the Shimano product line...As a whole, how is this deal? Seems good to me, but I'm still not extremely familiar with the road bike market.

I'd say that's a pretty darn good price. I paid a couple hundred more for my "Hyperion" (Pic here) (http://ecarthage.com/~nivens/bike/P1010004.JPG) which is pretty much the same bike but with Ultegra group and Spinergy wheels. So far I love mine!

CC has them for a dollar less...LOL (http://www.coloradocyclist.com/common/products/productdisplay2_v2.cfm?PRRFNBR=27746&S=23934,28119,23943,24274,27746,28076,28084,28100,28092,27642,27994,28009,28028,28140,28146,27082)

And they have some 51cm Hyperions left for $1499 (http://www.coloradocyclist.com/common/products/productdisplay2_v2.cfm?PRRFNBR=27082&S=23934,28119,23943,24274,27746,28076,28084,28100,28092,27642,27994,28009,28028,28140,28146,27082)

Nothing wrong with centaur, and as good as ultegra(let the shimano/campy BS begin).A good buy for an all campy 10 speed bike if it fits you.

my 2 cents...
I would drop the Centaur down a notch. I think it runs the same lines as Shimano 105s. Nothing wrong with either of them. I run Ultegra and I think the shifting is smoother than the Centaur or 105. But whatever feels better to the individual and for whatever said individual will afford... buy it.

Thanks for the input folks

Not to switch things around here, but it turns out I can get an Anteres for the same price. The components are the same, the *only* difference is that the Anteres is compact geometry and has a better paint scheme.

Would I be foolish to go with compact geometry just for the paint scheme? The frames are the same size, so I am assuming the ride would be similar?

Both are aluminum/carbon, both Centaur, both 55cm. What do you think?

Go with the geometry and what feels right.
If you dont like the paint job... you can always give it a personal touch!

The one that fits best. I like the paint and look of the compact better, but fit is everything.

If you were getting into racing, or were short (like me) compact geometry makes sense.

But, as others have said here, the fit is THE THING. Also, will you be able to switch out the stem, the handlebars, the seat - if after 50 miles you decide these things don't work for you?

Thanks again for the advice, folks. I ended up with the Atlas (classic geometry), and Ultegra everything for about $1300 minus wheels.

I already have a wheelset I plan to use on the bike, so I figured I would save a hundred bucks skipping the Protons and even get Ultegra in the deal...not because it was a huge upgrade over Centaur, but because I'm more familiar with it.

Can't wait to get it :)
